Snickers, Twix, Hershey bars/kisses, Kit-Kats, Almond Joys, Butterfingers, and Reeses....Who doesn't love chocolate? However, chocolate as we know it today is not how it was known and/or used centuries ago. Over 2000 years ago, thats when chocolate, also known as cocao, was discovered. The ancient cultures of both Mexico & Central America are said to be the first groups of people to harvest & make this world-wide sensation, Chocolate. Their way of making chocolate was to ground the cocao seeds, mix them with numerous seasonings, making a spicy and foamy drink. As all things do, these cocao seeds spread to other places. One of them was Spain. While in Spain, new recipies and drinks were created. Word got out about this new chocolate drink and soon it became known to people all over Europe, then all over The World.

Milk Chocolate

Chocolate as we know it comes in many forms. Creamy Milk Chocolate happens to be one of the best known types. Its can be surprising to know that Milk Chocolate was created in Switzerland, 1887. Who was the marvelous mind behind such a delicacy.....Daniel Peter. Coincidentally, Mr. Peter just happened to be an employee of the well known Nestle chocolate company. Many people had been trying to invent milk chocolate, but most failed at the task. The problem was that adding liquid to chocolate would cause it to shrink, seperate, & after that the chocolate becomes unusable. After a visit with Mr. Nestle, Daniel Peter decided to experiment with adding sweetened condensed milk to the chocolate & WaaLaaH.....MILK CHOCOLATE. With the conversions of Nestle, Peter, Cailler, & Kohler, Milk Chocolate was the most preferred form of chocolate. Word spread about this new, tasty chocolate from Swizerland, England, America, and eventually basically everyone was eating/drinking milk chocolate.

White Chocolate

                                            Is White Chocolate really chocolate?

White Chocolate, like all other types, originated from the cacao plant. White Chocolate contains cocoa butter, milk solids, sugar, lecithin, & other flavorings. The FDA is trying to prove that white chocolate is actually not chocolate at all. Why? because all chocolate based foods have a chocolate liquor that white chocolate does not. Though Cocoa butter is a main ingredient to this chocolate & is also found in other chocolates, there is a chance that what we thought was chocolate....really isn't. I'm not saying that it tastes bad, I'm just saying its not REALLY chocolate.

Dark Chocolate

Dark Chocolate is the Original form of Chocolate, coming straight from the cacao plant. This plant is grown in many places, from Africa to Mexico, to Europe. It is best grown in warm, moist climates. Once fully grown, the tree begins to sprout fruits about the size of a pineapple, and inside those fruits is the ingredient that made such a delicacy possible, the cacao bean/seed. Once these beans are ripened, they are fermented, sun-dried, then shipped to places that process chocolate. Every year, 600,000-700,000 tons are consumed around the world. Surprised?......I doubt it. Over the years chocolate has become a household name, well actually, a WORLD-WIDE Name!
